I. CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

Type A:  Bilateral Program

 

Introduction

This includes full or partial scholarships in accordance with the educational exchange agreements or consensus between the Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities or international organizations. It supports undergraduate students, graduate students, general scholars.

Applicants shall apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study of their home countries.

 

Type B: Chinese University Program

Introduction

This is a full scholarship for designated Chinese universities and certain provincial education offices in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. It only supports postgraduate students. The code of NJUCM is 10315.

 

Scholarship Coverage

1. Tuition fees;

2. Free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy;

3. Stipend:

Undergraduates: CNY 2,500 per month;

Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;

Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.

4. Comprehensive medical insurance:

CNY 800 per person per year;

CNY 400 per person (for programs lasting less than six months)

Eligibility

1.       be a citizen of a country other than the PRC and in good health both mentally and physically;

2.       be an academically excellent holder of high school diploma or its equivalent under the age of 25 when applying for an undergraduate program;

3.       be an academically excellent holder of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 35 when applying for a Master’s program;

4.       be an academically excellent holder of a Master’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 40 when applying for a doctoral program;

5.       be a holder of a high school diploma (or higher) under the age of 45 when applying for a general scholar program;

Language requirements

1.       have passed the HSK (Level 3) when applying for a Chinese-taught undergraduate or general scholar program (excluding Chinese language majors);

2.       have passed the HSK (Level 3) when applying for a Chinese-taught senior scholar program;

3.       have passed the HSK (Level 4) when applying for a Chinese-taught postgraduate program;

4.       meet the admission requirements of the university of preference in terms of language proficiency and academic ability, among others, when applying for a program taught in a language other than Chinese.

 Application Procedure

1. An applicant shall learn about designated Chinese universities and majors they offer by visiting websites (http://www.campuschina.org) or other means, and identify the preferred scholarship program, designated university and major;

2. An applicant shall reach the designated university for admission documents;

3. An applicant shall reach an application receiving agency for a recommendation;

4. An applicant shall fill in and submit the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System(http://www.campuschina.org);

5. The application receiving agency shall submit the recommended candidates list and their application documents;

6. The CSC will organize designated universities and experts concerned to examine applicants’ eligibility and academic performance before finalizing the short-list candidates;

7. The CSC will notify the admission results to the application receiving agency that will subsequently have the applicant informed.

Application Documents

1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (filled in online);

2. A scanned copy of the Passport Information Page. An applicant shall submit a clear scanned copy of the information page of his/her passport that will not expire on or before March 1, 2023. Renew the passport if the requirement is not met. An applicant who fails to apply for a passport due to objective reasons may submit valid documentation or documentary evidence that carries information about the full English name, sex, nationality and date of birth of the applicant upon the approval of the application receiving agency;

3. Diploma and certificate of highest education (notarized photocopy). An applicant who is a current university student shall submit the certificate of expected graduation or student status issued by his/her university;

4. Academic transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English shall be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;

5. Certificate of language proficiency. When applying for a Chinese-taught program, an applicant shall provide a valid HSK score report that meets the program’s language ability requirements. When applying for a program taught in a language other than Chinese, an applicant shall provide a certificate of proficiency in the language as required by the designated university, such as the IELTS or TOEFL test report;

6. Admission documents. When applying for a postgraduate program or for academic education as a general or senior scholar, an applicant shall provide the admission documents issued by the university of preference, including an admission letter, a pre-admission letter, or the invitation letter from a prospect supervisor (admission documents will serve as a priority of admission in granting the Chinese Government Scholarship);

7. A study or research plan written in Chinese or in English (no less than 200 words/characters for undergraduates; no less than 500 words/characters for scholars; no less than 800 words/characters for postgraduates);

8. Recommendation letters. An applicant for a postgraduate program or for academic education as a senior scholar shall submit two recommendation letters in Chinese or in English from professors or associate professors;

9. An applicant for the arts or design program shall provide his/her own works (such as videos and paintings);

10. An applicant under the age of 18 shall submit the legal documents of his/her legal guardian(s) in China;

11. An applicant to study in China for more than six months shall submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (the original document, printed by Chinese quarantine authorities, shall be filled in in English and kept by the applicant). The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Medical examination results are valid for only six months;

12. An applicant shall submit a valid Certificate of Non-Criminal Record (or Police Clearance Certificate) issued by the local public security (such as the police station), usually issued within six months prior to the submission date of the application.

 

II. International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship

Introduction

For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship). Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers for study of International Chinese Language Education or related majors at Chinese universities and colleges (hereinafter referred to as “host institutions”).

 

ELIGIBILITY

All applicants shall be:

a) Non-Chinese citizens;

b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;

c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct;

d) Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields;

e) Aged between16 and 35 (as of 1September, 2022), with the special allowance for the age limit of 45 for applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers and that of 25 for undergraduate student applicants.

 

SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

I.                Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

The programme commences in September 2022, and provides scholarship for a maximum of eleven months. International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible.

* Chinese Language Study

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

II.             Scholarship for One-Semester Study

The programme commences either in September 2022 or March 2023, and provides scholarship of a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

For the areas of TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy, etc., applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required. For the area of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture, applicants are required to provide HSK test scores. Priority will be given to applicants who also provide HSKK test scores.

 

III.   Scholarship for Four-Week Study

The programme commences either in July or December, 2022, and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

For the areas of Chinese Study, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taiji Culture, Chinese

Language plus Home-Stay Experience in a Chinese Family, and Special Four-week

Programme for Confucius Institutes, applicants are required to provide HSK test scores.

The programme may be organized and applied for by a recommending institution with 10- 15 participants per group. Prior to the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made in

consultation with host institutions and such plan shall be submitted to CLEC for approval.

 

IV.   Scholarship for Online Programmes

a) Online Programme for One-year Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. A general Chinese proficiency test score of 180 in HSK (Level 3) is required, and HSKK scores are preferred.

b) Online Programme for One-Semester Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. Generally, applicants must have an HSK score (no specific requirements for level or score).

c) For Special Online Study Programme, please consult the relevant host institutions for specific application requirements and methods of application.

 

V. Procedure

From March 1, 2022, applicants can log in to the international Chinese teacher scholarship registration website (CIS. China. CN) to apply for the international Chinese teacher scholarship. Log in to the scholarship website to query the recommending institutions and receiving institutions; Submit application materials online and pay attention to the application process, review opinions and scholarship evaluation results; The scholarship winner confirms with the receiving institution to go through the formalities for studying in China and print the award certificate online; Register for admission according to the time specified in the admission notice of the receiving institution.

Deadline (subject to Beijing time):

1. Admission in July (4-week scholarship): the deadline for students to apply is April 15, and the deadline for the examination of recommending institutions and receiving institutions is April 25;

2. Admission in September (one year or one semester scholarship): the deadline for students to apply is May 15, and the deadline for the examination of recommending institutions and receiving institutions is May 25;

3. Admission in December: the deadline for students to apply is September 15, and the deadline for the examination of recommending institutions and receiving institutions is September 25;

4. Admission in March 2023 (one semester scholarship): the deadline for students to apply is November 15, and the deadline for the examination of recommending institutions and receiving institutions is November 25. The center entrusts an expert group to conduct centralized evaluation: according to the HSK and hskk test scores and grades, and taking into account the country and other factors, select the best funding, complete the scholarship evaluation about 3 months before enrollment, and publish the evaluation results.

Coverage and Criteria for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

The Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fees, accommodation fees, living

allowance (four-week study students excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance

expenses. The scholarship online programmes only support tuition fees.

a) The tuition fees are used by the host institution for the training and management of the scholarship students, the development of cultural activities and the organization of Chinese language proficiency tests.

b) Accommodation fees are under the overall planning and utilization of host institutions to provide students with in-campus apartments (usually double rooms).

c) Living allowance is granted by host institutions on a monthly basis. The monthly

allowance for one-academic-year study students and one-semester students is 2,500 CNY per person.

 

Application Documents for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

a) A scanned copy of passport photo page;

b) A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year

validity);

c) A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions.

d)Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

 

III. Nanjing Municipal Government Scholarship

 

Introduction

The scholarship was set up by Nanjing government since 2013 to attract and encourage more outstanding overseas students to study and conduct scientific researches in Nanjing Universities.

Prospective Candidates

Non-degree students (1 year Chinese language students), undergraduates, Master and PhD candidates

Requirements

1.Non-Chinese citizens who are healthy physically and mentally, and friendly to China;

2.Undergraduates who are not older than 28; Master candidates, 35; PhD candidates, 40.

3. Have the corresponding Chinese level, and can provide HSK certificate, other Chinese learning and examination certificates and other relevant certificates.

4. The annual comprehensive quality evaluation is good.

5. Students who have not obtained any other scholarship granted by the Chinese government.

Benefits

This scholarship does not cover tuition, living costs or accommodation; it only provides a monthly stipend. Master and PhD candidates will be granted 20,000 RMB/year, Undergraduates 10,000 RBM/year, one-year students 5,000 RMB/year.

Application Methods

1. The application form for foreign student scholarship of Nanjing municipal government is in duplicate, which is filled in Chinese or English

2. Notarized highest education / degree certificate. If the applicant is a student in school, it is necessary to submit the certificate of study issued by the school. A notarized Chinese or English translation shall be attached to the non-Chinese and English versions.

3. Study report card. A notarized Chinese or English translation shall be attached to the non-Chinese and English versions.

4. Study or research plan for coming here. Please write in Chinese or English.

5. Those who intend to study for master's and doctor's degrees must submit a letter of recommendation written by two professors or associate professors of the graduating institution, written in Chinese or English;

6. If the applicant has the corresponding Chinese level, he / she must submit copies of relevant materials such as HSK certificate, other Chinese learning and examination certificates.

7. Copy of passport.

8. Health certificate.

The application materials submitted by the applicant will not be returned.
