International students holding X1 visa or L visa shall apply for residence permits within 30 days since the date of entry. Otherwise, you will be punished by the Chinese laws for illegal residence.

The following documents are required for residence permit application:

1. your passport and the visa

2. the temporary lodging registration certificate from local police station

3. the original of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners issued by Jiangsu International Travel Healthcare Centre for international students over 18 years old whose study period in China is more than one academic year

4. the original of Visa Application Form for Study in China (Form JW201 or Form JW202)

5. the official letter indicating the study duration and the admission letter from the Students’ Affairs Administration Office of International Education College

6. photo (white background and passport photo size)

International students shall apply for the residence permit extension at the Exit & Entry Administration of Nanjing Municipal Public Security Bureau at least 4 weeks before the expiration date with your passport and the official letter from the college. For students who illegally stay and live in China after the visa and the residence permit expire, penalties will be imposed in accordance with relevant regulations.

The following documents are required for residence permit extension:

1. your passport and the visa

2. the temporary lodging registration certificate from local police station

3. the official letter from the Students’ Affairs Administration Office

If your visa expires during the holidays, you have to come to the Students’ Affairs Administration Office and apply for the official letter before the holidays. The extension is no more than one year upon one application. Students who have graduated or completed your study in our university can not apply for the visa extension from the university.
